Bavarian Tourism Award for Eiche owner Holzapfel

Dietmar Holzapfel was awarded the Bavarian Tourism Prize for his lifetime achievement on 5 March, during a state reception at the Bavarian Representation in Berlin as part of the ITB. The award was presented by the State Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, Mrs Michaela Kaniber. In her laudation, the minister acknowledged his personal commitment as a bridge builder, pioneer, and role model for tolerance and openness. Through the rescue and expansion of the 'Deutsche Eiche', he created an outstanding tourist highlight. For years, he contributed to Munich's perception as a destination for LGBTIQ guests by volunteering at the Munich booth during the ITB. Countless journalists were supported by him free of charge. In 2015, he illuminated the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours for Munich Pride through a presentation on this niche market before the Economic Advisory Board of Bavaria - just to name a few of his activities. Minister Kaniber concluded her laudation with the words: 'You are more than a worthy award winner!' We echo her sentiments!"
