Unveiling of the Fassbinder Mosaic
Munich, 31/5/2025. Today we commemorate Rainer Werner Fassbinder, who would have turned 80 today. The world-renowned director had a close connection to the Deutsche Eiche – it was considered his second living room. At the time, the landlady even had small roles in several of his films, and the Eiche served as a filming location for Germany in Autumn.
As one of our most famous regulars, Fassbinder has now been honoured with a mosaic on our façade. The initiative for the project came from the property owners, Dietmar Holzapfel and Sepp Sattler. Dietmar Holzapfel, who led the project, opened the unveiling ceremony with personal anecdotes from Fassbinder’s time at the Eiche. The mosaic – a work by artist Franco Notonica – was then unveiled by Mayor Dominik Krause together with Sepp Sattler.
Numerous Fassbinder fans came to witness this special moment.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mayor Dominik Krause, Mayor-candidate Clemens Baumgärtner, and City Councillor Christian Vorländer for taking the time to join us. A special thanks also goes to Franco Notonica for this remarkable piece of art. And last but not least, we thank all our guests who celebrated this day with us.
